Zen Goal Setting

To live for a future goal is shallow. The top of a mountain is barren, while life is abundant on the sides. On the way to the peak, trees grow, animals wander, and nature sings. Once you arrive there’s only barren rock and cold wind.

But of course, without a top there are no sides. Each part of the mountain defines the other.

So although the goal isn’t the goal, it’s still a necessary part of enjoying the climb.

The tool I have for you today is a potentially life-changing blog titled ‘Goal Setting: A Scientific Guide to Setting and Achieving Goals’ by James Clear. If you’ve never read Atomic Habits, also by James Clear, go buy a copy right now. It will change your view of how to become the version of yourself you know you can be.
